Pe Metacritic, sit care reunește recenzii profesionale și ale userilor, Company of Heroes II (al doilea război mondial, frontul de est) are 80 (din 100) la recenzii profesionale și 1.7 (din 10) la recenziile userilor (5318 notări, în condițiile în care Rome II, un joc cu notorietate mult mai mare, are abia peste 2000 de notări). Din cele 5000 de notări ale userilor, aproape 2000 sînt cu nota zero.
Într-adevăr, jocul e o dezamăgire în comparație cu predecesorul său (Company of Heroes – frontul de vest – unul dintre jocurile cu cel mai mare succes la critică în toate timpurile), dar să fie chiar atît de prost Company of Heroes II? Să se înșele atît de mult revistele și siturile de specialitate și să aibă dreptate userii? De unde atîta nemulțumire din partea userilor?
Problema e următoarea: istoric, jocul e făcut pe bune, respectă adevărul și arată Armata Roșie în adevărata lumină. De aici și supărarea cohortelor de useri ruși (dacă reacția lor a fost spontană și nu e o acțiune organizată – nu pare spontană, comentariile seamănă între ele, iar cuvîntul cheie al tuturor e ”Goebbels”). Rușilor nu le place adevărul.

Comunismului, pentru a se justifica pe sine ca fiind drept raiul de pe pământ, i-a picat numai bine nazismul. Strigând că nazismul e de fapt răul, comunismul se punea la adăpost. Răul era altul iar comunismul, prin contrast, era alternativa la acest rău. De aceea şi astăzi, stânga vede şi are nevoie să vadă peste tot nazişti. E o metodă simplistă şi agresivă, căci se înţelege că tot ce nu e de stânga şi nu e comunist e nazist. Dacă nu eşti de stânga, eşti nazist, deci, ca să nu fii de nazist, trebuie să fii de stânga. Nu e de mirare că în 2013 stânga franceză încă se bate şi ea toată ziua cu nazismul.
Nazismul a rezolvat şi o eternă problemă rusească, anume nevoia de identitate în faţa agresorului cotropitor. Nu numai că Uniunea Sovietică s-a eliberat pe sine, dar a „eliberat” şi alte popoare (cotropite de fascişti), aducând în loc „paradisul”, adică comunismul. Ruşii au cultivat această idee până astăzi. Săbătoarea naţională a Rusiei arată mereu de parcă războiul s-ar fi terminat cu două zile înainte. Lupta cu nazismul umple şi acum golul de identitate rusesc. Este cel putin interesant cum nazismul este considerat intersanjabil cu fascismul, probabil pentru a ascunde relatia de rudenie a celor trei. Daca imi amintesc bine si Ceausescu isi trasese Partid Comunist national.
